Cintra, operating as a consortium with the investment fund Ashmore and the local group Colpatria, will be responsible for the design, construction, financing, operation and maintenance of the BBY Toll Road (Bucaramanga-Barrancabermeja-Yondó) in Colombia.
Cintra will be responsible for the development, operation and maintenance of this project, which will be designed and built by the JV led by Ferrovial Agromán. The development of this new corridor with approximately 152 km has an estimated total investment of $2.6 billion Columbian Pesos (approximately 880 million euro).
The concession term will be 25 years (with the option of 4 additional years) from the signing of the agreement, divided up into 1 year of studies and design, 5 years of construction and 19 years of operation.
This project includes rehabilitation and improvement activities on existing roads and newly-built sections to create a corridor of more or less 152 km, 95 of them dual carriageway (two lanes in each direction) between Bucaramanga and Barrancabermeja.
The infrastructure will have two tunnels (with a total length of 5.96 km) and 34 new viaducts and bridges.
The BBY toll road will be based on an availability payment system and an explicit shadow toll system.
Through this new project in Colombia, Cintra reestablishes its presence and commitment to LATAM after having managed assets in Colombia and Chile in 1990 and 2000.
